What’s possible now?

Between the summer of 2020 and the fall of 2021, El Museo del Barrio is presenting ESTAMOS BIEN – LA TRIENAL 20/21, a large-scale nationwide survey exhibition of Latinx contemporary artists, both online and in its galleries. The physical show opened in March 2021 and, with the intention to expand its resonance and extend its scope, we invited art workers, cultural leaders, and creatives to participate in the Critics Page of the Brooklyn Rail’s June issue

Marcela Guerrero

Marcela Guerrero is the Jennifer Rubio Associate Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art. She lives with her family in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

Lizania Cruz

Lizania Cruz is a participatory artist from the Dominican Republic. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Juana Valdés

Juana Valdés was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba and lives in the USA. Artist (Afro-Latinx) by calling and educator by profession.

Bernardo Mosqueira

Bernardo Mosqueira is a curator and writer based in NYC. He holds a masters in curatorial studies (CCS Bard, 2021). Mosqueira is founder and director of Solar dos Abacaxis since 2015 and director of Prêmio FOCO ArtRio since 2011.

Carla Acevedo Yates and Isabel Casso

Isabel Casso is the Marjorie Susman Curatorial Fellow at the MCA Chicago. Carla Acevedo-Yates is the Marilyn and Larry Fields Curator at the MCA Chicago.

Alana Hernandez is Executive Director & Curator of CALA Alliance, a multidisciplinary Latinx organization in Phoenix, Arizona. Hernandez fosters Latinx artistic talent in the Metro-Phoenix region and beyond while strengthening cultural ties to the Americas.

Candida Alvarez is an artist who imagines a world through the lens of painting and drawing. She has mentored artists for over 25 years. The pandemic cleared a path towards her new home/studio. She now lives between Chicago and Michigan.

Carolina Caycedo is a multidisciplinary artist living in unceded Tongva land (Los Angeles).

Dominique Duroseau

Dominique Duroseau is a Newark-based artist born in Chicago, raised in Haiti. Duroseau's interdisciplinary practice explores themes of racism, socio-cultural issues, and existential dehumanization.

Francis Almendárez

Francis Almendárez is an artist, filmmaker, and educator from Los Angeles, CA currently based in Houston, TX.

Herb Tam

Herb Tam is the Curator and Director of Exhibitions at the Museum of Chinese in America in New York.

Josh T Franco

Josh T Franco is the national collector at the Smithsonian’s Archives of American Art.

June Canedo

June Canedo de Souza is a Brazilian artist based in New York.

Michael Menchaca

Michael Menchaca is a de-indigenous Mexican American artist based in San Antonio, TX. He works in print media and new media formats to generate anti-colonial, anti-racist, and anti-capitalist visions of the world.

Olga Viso

Olga Viso is a curator, writer, and contemporary art historian based at Arizona State University's Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. She was previously the director of the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC. She is a scholar of contemporary and Latin American Art, with a focus on the contemporary art of Cuba.

Serubiri Moses

Serubiri Moses is an Ugandan writer and curator, based in New York.
